The Competent Person Scheme was introduced by the Government to allow individuals and businesses to self certify that work they carry out complies with the relevant building regulations without needing to use a building inspector or submitting a building notice. 

To ensure that standards are met consistently, Competent Persons must be registered with a scheme approved by the Ministries of Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG).  A full list of the approved schemes is available on the government website:
